About

In Dra. Carolina Rodríguez's own words

"I listen carefully to each case. The patient sitting in front of me is the only patient that matters in that consultation, and the plan we agree on has to be one they can actually sustain."

I am a bariatric surgeon on the surgical team at Global Obesity Group. I have been operating for 15+ years, treating obesity and overweight as chronic conditions that need long-term medical attention — not one-time surgical events.

My medical degree is from Universidad de la Sabana. I trained as a General Surgeon at FUCS (Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud), where I graduated with academic honors for the highest average of my cohort, and where I now serve as an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine.

I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), an active member of the Federación Latinoamericana de Cirugía, the Asociación Colombiana de Cirugía, the Association of Women Surgeons Colombia, and the Sociedad Panamericana de Trauma. My clinical practice covers gastric balloon, gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and advanced laparoscopic techniques across four Bogotá hospitals.

Why patients choose Dra. Carolina Rodríguez

Three things that differentiate this practice

1

Patient-centered consultations

I do not run a 15-minute consultation factory. First visits are 45–60 minutes, and patients leave with a written plan, not just a quote.

2

FACS — international credential

Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons means I meet US-equivalent surgical standards. For international patients, that translates into known quality.

3

Academic + clinical balance

Teaching at FUCS keeps me close to current literature. The protocols I use today are not the ones I learned in 2009.

FAQ

Common questions for Dra. Carolina Rodríguez

If your question is not here, the fastest way to a real answer is a 30-minute virtual consultation.

What procedures do you perform?
Gastric balloon (Allurion swallowed balloon and traditional intragastric), gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and revision surgery — all laparoscopic.
What does FACS mean for me as a patient?
Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons is granted after peer review of surgical outcomes and ethics. It is the same standard US-based surgeons hold and is recognized internationally.
Where do you operate?
Hospital de San José, Clínica Shaio, Clínica Colsubsidio de la 94, and Clínica Cobos — all private hospitals in Bogotá.
Do you treat international patients?
Yes. I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and a meaningful share of my practice is patients flying into Bogotá for surgery.
How long is the first consultation?
45 to 60 minutes. We review medical history, prior weight-loss attempts, current medications, and what your daily life looks like. You leave with a written assessment and recommended next steps.
What is your approach to follow-up?
Bariatric surgery is the start of a 12-month minimum follow-up window. We schedule check-ins at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months — by video for international patients, in person for local ones.
